In a 4Runner, can the hatch be safely opened with the awning deployed?

There are a lot of variables to determine whether your hatch will hit the awning. In the 4Runner pictured with the XT-71, the hatch does make minor contact with the awning but does not cause any damage when opened up slowly and works with no issues. Depending on how high you have the awning mounted, what roof rack you have, and if you have any additional accessories on the hatch of your vehicle, this could affect how much clearance you have between the hatch and awning.
