We use several different thicknesses depending on what structural part of the bumper you are looking at. This ranges from 1/4" to 1/8" and everything in between. Steel gauge combined with good structural engineering and gusseting will provide a very stout bumper but keep the weight down. We don't want to build a 200lb+ boat anchor for your rig.
